Description:
Stores (including the Santa Fe Bakery at 5339 Grove Street) with second floor apartments, on the west side of the 5300 block of Grove Street (now Martin Luther King Jr. Way), Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. Note the streetcar tracks running along Grove Street. These buildings were likely demolished in the 1960s when Grove Street was widened to accommodate the elevated Richmond line BART tracks running along the center of Grove Street.

View of a portion of the west side of the 5300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way (formerly Grove Street.), just south of 54th Street, Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. Prior to the construction of the El Cerrito BART line in the 1960s, for which this section of Grove Street was widened, a row of one- and two-story commercial buildings (with apartments above), including the Santa Fe Bakery and a grocery store, stood on this side of the street. All of those buildings were demolished when the BART elevated right-of-way was constructed.
