FROG Park-Hardy St 2005
Description:
FROG Park (looking east), Lower Rockridge district, Oakland, Calif. Beyond the far path was the location of 491 Hardy Street (the Cecil & Karen Chase property), a home demolished when the Temescal Creek culvert, which runs below ground through this site, was extended approximately four blocks, from Hardy Street to Clarke Street, in the 1970s (completed circa 1975) by the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (ACFCWCD). As part of the culverting project, and as a result of community pressure, a small park was built on this site. In the early 2000s, through a renewed community effort, the park was improved, extended, and named FROG Park.
