Context:
Marshall Steel Dry Cleaning, which opened in 1934, is representative of the expansion of Temescal s commercial development and businesses that had been taking place. Rollerland (demolished in 1972), a roller skating rink immediately to the south on Telegraph Avenue (at 5411 Telegraph) opened in 1930. By the end of the 1930s, most of Temescal s stores, markets, banks, restaurants, and bars along Telegraph Avenue were Italian American owned. It was said that Temescal s commercial district so diverse were its businesses provided everything one might need.
