Context:
The Galindo Hotel, on the southwest corner of 8th and Franklin streets in Oakland, was one of several properties in Alameda and Contra Costa counties owned by Francisco Galindo (1824-1890), including his large Victorian home on the west side of Telegraph Avenue a few blocks north of today s 51st Street. Galindo's sister, Encarnación, was married to Vicente Peralta. Encarnación and Vicente were the first persons of European descent to reside in what we now know as North Oakland. Their adobe and, later, Victorian residence, were near what is today the northeast corner of Telegraph Avenue and 55th Street and a stone's throw from Temescal Creek.
