Context:
The Friends of Temescal Creek (FoTC) was founded by Bruce Douglas in 1997 to explore the possibility of daylighting Temescal Creek where it flowed in an underground culvert through the proposed Temescal Plaza development site at Telegraph and 51st Street. The organization s 100-year mission is to restore Temescal Creek as a natural urban creek providing a recreational and wildlife corridor from the hills to the Bay. FoTC projects have included consulting with the City of Emeryville and private developers, water quality monitoring, and public art projects designed to increase community awareness of the Temescal Creek Watershed.
