Context:
In the latter part of the 19th century, Temescal was the name used to refer not just to the small village that had grown up where Telegraph Road crossed Temescal Creek (today s 51st Street), but to the area extending north from the Oakland city line, at about 38th Street, to the Berkeley border, and from Broadway on the east, to the Emeryville border on the west.
