Context:
The steam train operated on Telegraph Avenue between the car barn, located immediately south of Temescal Creek (present-day 51st Street) and the state university campus in Berkeley from 1877 to 1892 (the bridge over the creek is in the foreground). The Cattaneo Building (5004-5010 Telegraph Avenue), completed circa 1872, is considered to be the oldest surviving commercial structure in Temescal. It was designated a city landmark in 1983.
