46th Street, looking east toward the intersection of Grove Street (now Martin Luther King Jr. Way), Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. The Grove-Shafter freeway (Highway 24) and BART, which passes in the background at the dead-end of 46th Street, are under construction. Prior to this, 46th Street went through eastward to Shattuck Avenue. In the background, extending above and at the left of the concrete wall at the dead-end, is the UC Storage building (now Storquest), with its two large rooftop signs oriented toward the Temescal business district.

46th Street, looking east toward the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way (formerly Grove Street) and the concrete wall of Highway 24, Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. 46th Street, which ran eastward to Shattuck Avenue, was cut off in the 1960s with the construction of Highway 24 (the Grove-Shafter Freeway) and BART.
