Description:
West Land Fruit and Produce Market, 4822 Telegraph Avenue, Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. According to the Oakland Cultural Heritage Survey s record on this property, a barbershop, accordion studio, and Ben s Place, a cocktail lounge, had also been located here at different times. In 1975, Charlie Hardy, a graduate of Oakland Technical High School and player for the Oakland Raiders, 1960-62, opened the Bird Kage here, where live Jazz was featured.

The bar featured various types of live music over the years, most notably jazz.

Opened in 2007, the Avenue previously had been Connally's, a bar that had operated for decades across the street at 4301 Telegraph Avenue. The Bird Kage cocktail lounge had opened at 4822 Telegraph Ave. in 1975.
