Description:
West Land Fruit and Produce Market, 4822 Telegraph Avenue, Temescal district, Oakland, Calif. According to the Oakland Cultural Heritage Survey s record on this property, a barbershop, accordion studio, and Ben s Place, a cocktail lounge, had also been located here at different times. In 1975, Charlie Hardy, a graduate of Oakland Technical High School and player for the Oakland Raiders, 1960-62, opened the Bird Kage here, where live Jazz was featured.

Charles "Charlie" Hardy Jr., a graduate of Oakland Technical High School and a former wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders (1960-62), opened the bar in 1975. The bar featured various types of live music over the years, most notably jazz.

Opened in 2007, the Avenue previously had been Connally's, a bar that had operated for decades across the street at 4301 Telegraph Avenue. The Bird Kage cocktail lounge had opened at 4822 Telegraph Ave. in 1975.
