Description:
Excavation of "40th Street Cut," 40th Street and Howe Street (looking west), Piedmont Avenue neighborhood, Oakland, Calif. The Key System streetcar company cut through this hill, from Broadway east to Howe Street, to run its streetcar line to the Key Route station at Piedmont Avenue and 41st Street. The address of the residence on the left is 3883 Howe Street. Note on the back of the photo: Tracks laid 1904.

View from the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot (looking northerly) across 40th Street toward the parking lot located behind stores along 41st Street and Piedmont Avenue, Oakland Calif. The parking lot across 40th Street is the former site of the Piedmont Avenue Station on the C streetcar line.
