Context:
The Sacramento Northern Railway once ran passenger and freight trains up Shafter Avenue, through the hills, past Sacramento, to Chico, Calif. The two-square-block Sacramento Northern terminus, which included a depot, rail yard, machine shop, paint shop, freight shed, and other buildings, extended from 40th to 41st streets, and from Webster to Opal streets. The facility was demolished in 1957.This photograph was expressly taken to match the scene of an earlier photograph. See: Boyscouts SN station 1938
